CGI – Computer Generated Images for FMCG

Packshots from print data, always up to date.

With CGI, photorealistic product images of your packaging are created from 3D models. Because we build them directly from the final print data, they show exactly the pack that is on the shelf.

What CGI packshots are

In the past, product images meant building dummies and photographing them. Today the image is created digitally: from the 3D model of the pack and the print data, we render photorealistic packshots, also known in the industry as product renderings or a Pack Image Album (PIA). The process has long been standard. The difference lies in where the data comes from.

Where CGI is used – an alternative to e-commerce product photography

Around 95 percent of requests are for e-commerce: product images for online shops and retail platforms, created to GS1 image standards. For packaging images, 3D product rendering has largely replaced classic e-commerce product photography.

Always up to date – CGI from final print data

If the declaration changes, we update the render without a new briefing. Artwork, repro and CGI sit in one chain at LINKED. So there is no data transfer between service providers and no question of whether the image shows the latest version.

Photo or CGI – the difference

Product photography delivers the image on the pack, such as the plated pasta or the praline. CGI shows the image of the pack, as it appears in the online shop. At LINKED, the two work hand in hand.

New declaration, new shop? Your packshots keep up.
